I’ve been leaving in Cebu City for two years now and had witnessed Sinulog twice already. I must say that it’s one of the grandest and most anticipated festivals in the country. Sinulog festival is the country’s biggest sounds and color as it honors and pays respect to Cebu City’s patron saint, the child Jesus – Sr. Sto. Niño. The main spectacle of the festival is the Sinulog Grand Parade which usually has 20 or more contingents from different provinces.
During the said event streets are closed for the parade and people will just walk from one corner to the other. You will be amazed by the people coming out of their homes to witness the said parade. Some even came from nearby provinces and even some came from abroad. I asked myself one time “Where are all this people come from?”. During the grand parade, a lot of the country’s actresses and actors join in celebrating the festival. This would be the time for some to be able to see their favorite actress and actor in person. Floats joining the parade are colorful that added beauty on the said parade.
Aside from the grand parade, there are also other activities that the Sinulog committee prepared like photo exhibit, cultural shows and street party bands. Early January there will be live bands held in Fuente Circle until the 18th of January which is the last day of the festival. During this celebration, you will see beer and lots of beer everywhere. For some this is the time for reunion and get together party especially a lot of people would come home for the festival. This is also the time for some to profit by selling goods like henna tattoo, caps made in buli, drinks and others.
Sinulog Festival is associated with laugh, fun, enjoyment and excitement. I will surely never going to miss Sinulog Festival 2010.
sinulog is the most celebrated events here in cebu…..that’s true….if anybody will attend this kind of celebration u will be amazed………….
