The Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral is one of the well-preserved old churches in the whole of Cebu. It is below the ranks of Manila Cathedral inside Intramuros in Manila but the beauty and magnificence may be far better than the other cathedrals found in the country. It is a stone-throw away from the miraculous church of Sto. Nino de Cebu, where the cross of Magellan is situated.
Many of the locals who are far from the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral continue to find the time to visit the church at least once a week and pray for peace and prosperity. Many churchgoers believed that this church possesses great power and those who seek for divine’s help will get his unconditional love.
The Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral is more awe-inspiring at night than day time. The Archbishop of Cebu spent over a million to renovate this church built in the 1800’s and combine a modern appeal to the surroundings.
Photographers spread throughout the church’s vicinity asking churchgoers to avail their photograph service at P60 per 2 copies. Adults and children alike enjoy the tree surrounded park with grotto and statue of Jesus Christ. Notable about the church is the old bell tower that housed several bells that play a tune and not only one gong.
The dramatic part of the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral is its altar that showcases the best statues of saints Pedro Calungsod and San Lorenzo Ruiz and Jesus Christ in the cross. The grandeur design with warm colors of gold and yellow makes the devotees pray to their heart’s content.
