Overlooking Cebu City, in the elegant Beverly Hills residential area, situated the splendid Cebu Taoist Temple. It was built in 1972 with an elevation of 300 meters above sea level; the temple is towering, multi-tiered attraction accessible by three separate winding routes.

Cebu Taoist Temple is a symbol of the city’s large influential Chinese population. It is open to worshipers and non-worshipers alike. A ritual among devotees is to pray to the gods to grant one’s wish. Ritual includes washing of hands, going inside with barefoot and then blocking two blocks of woods. If the blocks of woods are both face up, then one can continue making a wish, but if is not then it’s not yet time and one could always come back some other time.

Cebu Taoist Temple is the center of worship for Taoism. It is the religion that follows the teaching of Chinese philosopher Lao Tze. The climbing of its 81 steps (representing the 81 chapters of Taoism scriptures) and light joss sticks and have the monks read their fortune is another ritual among Taoist devotees which is done during Wednesdays and Sundays.

Cebu Taoist Temple’s entrance is a replica of the Great Wall of China. Upon entering the temple you would be able to see the giant dragon statue. The temple has a library, chapel, souvenir shop and wishing well. No wonder a lot of people come to visit the place especially during field trips.

The balconies at Cebu Taoist Temple offer a scenic view of Cebu City. The temple is accessible and you can always get there through riding a jeepney or a taxi. Taxi would cost you around Php 80.00 to Cebu Taoist Temple.

Cebu City is bounty in tourism. It has a lot of tourist spot including historical places. One of attraction in the city is the nature park situated in the mountain which can give you a new kind of experience slightly away from the hustle of the city.

Mountain View Nature’s Park

Mountain View Nature’s Park is located in Sitio Garahe Busay, Cebu City. It’s just 15 to 20 minute ride from the city. It’s a different recreation area since it’s on top of a mountain. You can reach the place through riding a taxi or a motorcycle which they call “habal-habal”. You can even call Mountain View Nature’s Park at (6332) 231-5444 /231-5454 and hire their van that would pick you up and drive you home as well. Entrance Fee is Php 50 per person for unlimited use of the park until midnight. Isn’t that cool?

Mountain View Nature’s Park provides a lot of amenities. This includes mini zoo, camping sites, gardens, retreat and seminar hall, picnic tables, children’s playground, videoke place, hanging bridges, mini-restaurants, canteen, way of the cross area and a lot more. While on the place you can go nature tripping, go on hiking while having fun looking and taking some pictures on the huge statues of Mickey Mouse and others or go through the 100 steps to the viewing deck area. It’s like experiencing nature but still within the city.

Splendid Overlooking View of Cebu City

Viewing Deck in Mountain View Nature’s Park is the main attraction of the park. It is actually located on the peak of the park which gives every visitor a splendid overlooking view of Cebu City especially during sunset and night time. The park gives you a relaxing feeling and you could really feel the cold breeze smothering your body. Sometimes if you’re lucky enough, you can experience fog while on the park. That would just give you an idea on how cold the place is.

According to Wikipedia, a park is a protected area, in it is a natural or semi-natural state or planted which is for human recreation and enjoyment. I think I found this park in Cebu.

The D’ Family Park Rate Board

D’ Family Park is situated in Talamban,Cebu City. It’s the first park of its kind in Cebu and within the MCWD 20-hectare property. It offers a different kind of recreation site for Cebuanos while also promoting the protection of flora and fauna. The person behind this project is Fr. Francisco G. Silva who is the former MCWD General Manager and funded by Congressman Raul del Mar. This recreational area was opened to public last May 8, 1999.

D’ Family Park Swimming Pool

Within the 20-hectare property you could find a swimming pool (both for kids and for adults), picnic camp site, children’s playground, a mini zoo, multi function club house and a pavilion. And oh by the way, the children’s play ground has swings, see-saws, slides and others. Also the park has a large stage equipped with sound system and in front of it is a huge open field big enough to hold events such as ball games. The park even has a jogger’s path along the side of concrete road from the gate of MCWD and a kiosk structured for those who enjoys watching the serenity of greeneries.

The Playground

The park also has a big lake which actually is one of the main attractions on the area. Everybody just loves to sit down on the benches around, chatting and just having fun. For some, it is a complete relaxation. There is just one thing missing on a lake, small boats or swan boats.

D’ Family Park Lake

The place is perfect for a Sunday afternoon stamping ground. You could bring blankets along with some foods and your family.
